Eileen Leonard

Professor of Sociology

Eileen Leonard is Professor of Sociology and also serves on the steering committee of the American Studies Program. She has directed the American Studies Program and the Women’s Studies Program. She received her PhD in sociology from Fordham University. Her teaching and research interests are in criminology, gender, social theory, and social problems. Her courses include: Introduction to Sociology, Criminology, Working Class Studies, Women Crime and Punishment, and a course on Gender, Social Problems and Social Change, which is taught at a local women’s prison to a combined class of Vassar students and incarcerated women.

She is co-editor of The Social Bond (Fordham University Press, 1992), and author of Women, Crime and Society (Longman, 1982), Women, Technology and the Myth of Progress (Prentice-Hall, 2003), and Crime, Inequality, and Power (Routledge, 2015).
