Sociology is the systematic study of social life, ranging from interactions in a small group to formation and transformation of identities and the making and unmaking of inequalities among social groups in a national society and across national boundaries. It offers a distinct perspective to focus on collective forms of social life and individuals as members of groups of all size, including (but not limited to) families, age, class, gender/sexuality, and race/ethnicity/nation. Sociological research aspires to generate careful and substantiated generalizations about social life by paying special attention to recurring patterns in it at various levels.

Sociology provides a solid foundation for a range of careers in today’s knowledge-based economy, including the fields of education, international affairs, journalism, law, medicine, public administration, public health, social work, and social research occupation in polling and survey.
